This is a photography expedition first.

Rather than racing from one wildlife sighting to the next, the expedition has been designed around the opportunities to make exceptional photographs.

We take the time to understand behaviour, work with the light, experiment with different approaches and make the most of the moments we encounter.

When you give yourself to the moment, the photograph finds you.

01

Photography-First Approach

Time to slow down and make the most of each photographic opportunity, rather than moving on the moment a sighting occurs.

02

Maximum Six Guests

Small groups mean more individual attention, more flexibility and a far more personal experience throughout the expedition.

03

Direct In-Field Coaching

Personal photographic guidance throughout, with a second photography guide travelling with the group, giving a ratio of roughly 3 guests to 1 guide.

About Your Guide

Helping you turn extraordinary encounters into extraordinary photographs.

Ewan Crosbie is an internationally award-winning wildlife photographer from the UK, now based in Costa Rica. In the field, his approach is as much about teaching you to see and understand wildlife as it is about helping you create great photographs — with observation, patience and an appreciation for the experience at its heart.

Internationally Award-Winning Costa Rica Based Personal Field Coaching

This expedition is designed for you if…

  • You already know your camera and want to go further
  • You’re looking to improve your wildlife photography
  • You enjoy slowing down and making the most of photographic opportunities
  • You value small groups and a more personal experience in the field
  • You value the experience of wildlife as much as the photographs you bring home

Three ecosystems. One photographic journey.

Ten nights exploring three of Costa Rica’s most remarkable wildlife habitats — from the Pacific dry forest, moving into the Caribbean rainforest, and finishing in the cloud forest. Each environment brings a completely different set of photographic opportunities.

Stage One · Days 1–3 Pacific Dry Forest

Orotina

Photographing from boats and on foot, working on birds in flight, monkeys, crocodiles and wildlife behaviour.

Stay AtCerro Lodge

Stage Two · Days 3–8 Caribbean Rainforest

Sarapiquí

The focus shifts to macro, reptiles, amphibians, rainforest birds, specialist hides and sloths, in one of the country’s richest wildlife regions.

Stay AtHacienda la Isla

Stage Three · Days 8–10 Cloud Forest

San Gerardo de Dota

Multiple opportunities to photograph hummingbirds, quetzals and other high-elevation cloud forest wildlife.

Stay AtParaiso Quetzales

More than a wildlife checklist.

Quetzals, hummingbirds, king vultures, frogs, reptiles, insects, monkeys, sloths and rainforest birds are just some of the subjects we may encounter. But the aim is never simply to collect species — each location has been chosen for the photographic opportunities it creates, from intimate macro work and behavioural photography to birds in flight and creative approaches to wildlife.

Learning to observe. To watch behaviour, recognise opportunities, and understand why one image is stronger than another.

Watch First

Great photographs often happen before the camera reaches your eye.

Observe Behaviour

Patterns create opportunities.

Photograph With Intention

Slow down. Think differently. Photograph deliberately.

Enjoy The Moment

Pictures capture moments. Experiences create memories.

Immerse yourself in the experience. Great photographs are what happen when observation, patience and opportunity come together.

Everything you need to know before you join.

6Guests Maximum

Small enough for real individual attention and flexibility in the field.

3:1Guide Ratio

Approximately, of guest to guide — with a second photography guide accompanying the expedition throughout.

10Nights

Across three of Costa Rica’s most productive wildlife ecosystems, worked properly rather than rushed through.

Accommodation

Chosen for the photography, not the thread count.

This isn’t a five-star luxury-hotel proposition. Rather than staying in resorts an hour from the wildlife, we’ve chosen comfortable lodges in the heart of each ecosystem — excellent locations, proximity to wildlife, shorter transfers, earlier access, and comfortable places to rest between sessions.

We prioritise photography over five-star hotels.

  • Pacific Dry Forest Cerro Lodge
  • Caribbean Rainforest Hacienda la Isla
  • Cloud Forest Paraiso Quetzales
